Christian Values

As a Church of England School, we identify Christian Values. We have thirteen school values which are all firmly rooted in Christian teaching.
Four of these are are core values being; Love, Persverance, Truthfulness and Respect.
Our vision and these four core values underpin everything we do as a school; our aims and ethos, policies, procedures, the design of our curriculum, how we treat one another, the decisions that we make, and the school’s management and governance.

Central to all of these is LOVE and the belief that all people are ‘made in the image of God’. Everyone is different, everyone is valued and everyone is loved.

‘This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.’

John 15:12

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 134-7

‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:39

Each term, we focus on a specific Value, and central to our Values teaching is our collective worship. We use the Gloucester Diocese’s ‘Values for Life’ as a framework, with most worship planned using Roots and Fruits, Out of the Box and Jack in the Box. These publications provide a whole school programme to teach Christian Values in collective worship and across the curriculum. References to Values in the context of those of other faiths and those of no faith is included and acknowledged in worship and displays.

Each aspect of the work of our school, including all curriculum areas, contributes to the development of our Values. They are referenced in our written policies and shine through our practice. Our Values are noticed and are acknowledged. Children’s behaviour is celebrated and referred back to the term’s Value (and other Values), and members of staff are used as positive role models. We only have three school rules in our school; to be READY, RESPECTFUL and SAFE. You will note that one of these is one of our four key values; 'Respect'. The teachers plan the ways in which Values education is to be addressed in the contexts and issues of the subject areas.
