A new government initiative was introduced in 2013 to give primary schools additional funding to spend on improving the quality of sport & PE for all their pupils with the aim of improving provision and experiences within schools.
This initiative was launched following the Olympic Games with the aim of providing an enduring legacy, from which the children would benefit for years to come.
Principles
At Upton St Leonards C of E Primary School we aim to:
o Ensure that all children enjoy physical education and sport
o Improve health (both mental and physical) and well-being
o Promote active participation and lifelong learning and for each child to fulfil their potential
o Ensure the funding is spent on improving the provision of PE & sports to develop the children‘s education
o Provide additional sporting opportunities through the use of targeted sessions delivered by qualified coaches
o Encourage those children who are reluctant to participate in physical activities to join a sports club
o Challenge and develop talented pupils by providing specific workshops
o Develop class teacher knowledge and skills through training sessions
o Network with other schools through the Gloucestershire Schools Sports Network, Active Gloucestershire and the Gloucester Schools Primary Football Association
